11 November 2014 – The Philippine Embassy in Moscow, Russian Federation, in cooperation with the embassies of the other nine ASEAN member countries, co-hosted a diplomatic reception to celebrate the 47th founding anniversary of ASEAN on October 30 at the Glav UpDK Cultural Center in Moscow.

Brunei Ambassador and ASEAN Moscow Committee Chair Haini Hashim and Department of Asian and Pacific Cooperation Director and Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Bakhtier Khakimov delivered the toast remarks on behalf of ASEAN and the Russian Federation.

The event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other Russian government agencies, Embassy officials of ASEAN dialogue partner countries, and representatives from the Russian private sector, academe, think tank community and media, among others.

Guests were treated to a fete of Southeast Asian culinary delights and cultural performances. One of the highlights of the event was the recitation of Virgilio Almario’s “Tuwing Dadalawin ko ang Dagat”, in both the original Filipino and English translation, by Vera Golikava and Nina Prakapovich, Filipino majors at the Institute of Asian and African Studies (IAAS) at the Moscow State University (MSU). Golikava and Prakapovich were coached by Prof. Ekaterina Baklanova, Ph.D. in Philippine Studies and Senior Researcher at the IAAS-MSU. END
