24 October 2016 – The Philippine Embassy in Moscow in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), organized a master class on Philippine folkdances by Mr. Ronnie B. Mirabuena, Chief Culture and Arts Officer of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, at the State Darwin Museum in Moscow on October 15.
Mr. Mirabuena’s workshop started with a brief presentation on“The Filipino Character as Portrayed in Philippine Dances”with emphasis on folk dances ranging from ethnic to foreign-influenced.
The presentation was followed by a demonstration of basic movements of various Philippine folk dances such asbendiyan,jota, andtinikling. Museum enthusiasts including young children gamely participated in the maste rclass.
Mr. Mirabuena is a teacher, performer, choreographer, artistic director, and cultural educator. In 2008, he won the best choreography award for his work “Panata” during the Douglas Nieras Choreography Clinic in Manila. He is a member of the Philippine Folk Dance Society and was recently appointed as an ex-officio member of the NCCA Cultural Education Committee.
The event was part of the Philippine Cultural Week at the State Darwin Museum in celebration of the 20thAnniversary of the ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Partnership and 40 years of Philippines-Russia diplomatic relations. END
