03 October 2016 —– The Philippine Embassy in Moscow has completed the transition to the new ePassport system. This includes the use of the new data-capturing module for passport applications and the issuance of the new ePassports with improved design and security features.
One of the first Moscow-based OFWs to apply for the new ePassport is Ms. Jenny Albento from Nueva Ecija. She said, “Napakabilis po nung nagging proseso. ‘Di po umabot ng 5 minutes at friendly po ang mga staff.” (“The process was fast. It took less than five minutes and the staff were friendly.”)
The new ePassport which is fully-compliant with the latest standards of the United Nations’ International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) – contains a myriad of security features including intaglio printing, ultraviolet images and an electronic chip containing the bearer’s biometric information. It is now being issued at all DFA consular offices in the Philippines and will be available in Philippine Embassies and Consulates worldwide. END
