28 September 2016 – Philippine Ambassador to the Russian Federation Carlos D. Sorreta recently received representatives of Geo Spectrum Group headed by CEO Mr. Mikhail Kuritsyn at the Philippine Embassy in Moscow.

The group met to discuss the company’s interest in implementing several technologies that can help address the impacts of mining on the environment and local communities.

Geo Spectrum shared with the Embassy that it possesses technologies to process waste produced by nickel ore mining that will allow the soil to be reused for agricultural purposes while retrieving valuable trace elements.

This can be coupled with the company’s remote-sensing capabilities to target feasible areas according to the company. They requested the Embassy to continue further discussions towards the development of a proposal to conduct a pilot study at the company’s cost.

“Mining, when done sustainably and in accordance with regulations, has the potential to play an integral part in sustaining the growth of the Philippine economy”, Ambassador Sorreta said during the meeting. He added, “The Philippine Embassy is duty-bound to assess potential solutions to the environmental issues that the country is facing.” END
