ACDS KazakhAmbTazhin

Moscow -- H.E. Carlos D. Sorreta, the Philippines’s non-resident Ambassador-designate to Kazakhstan based in Moscow, called on H.E. Marat Tazhin, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation on 03 August 2016.

Ambassador Sorreta conveyed the Philippines commitment to deepen relations with Kazakhstan especially in the areas of trade and tourism. He noted the positive developments in the Eurasian integration process where Kazakhstan plays an important role. He stressed the Philippines’ readiness to conclude relevant agreements to facilitate cooperation in these spheres.

Ambassador Tazhin welcomed this interest and affirmed the big potential for growth in the bilateral relations. He noted that Kazakhstan is poised to become the logistical heart of Eurasia in view of the ongoing construction of a major transport corridor connecting Asia and Europe. Once completed travel time between the two continents will be significantly reduced. This will consequently open more opportunities for increased trade and other forms of exchanges.

The Philippines established diplomatic relations with Kazakhstan in 1992. Since then the two countries have enjoyed cordial ties cooperating both at the bilateral and multilateral levels. Kazakhstan is an upper-middle-income country and the largest economy in Central Asia. It is a founding member of the newly created Eurasian Economic Union and a key actor in various regional security mechanisms in Eurasia. - END -
