07 March 2016 – The Philippine Embassy in Moscow arranged a special screening of the documentary film “Paraiso” directed by Mr. Nash Ang at the Moscow State University on February 29.The screening was attended by students from the Institute of African and Asian Studies of the Moscow State University (MSU-IAAS) specializing in Filipino and other Southeast Asian languages. Also present was Professor Elena Frolova, Senior Professor of Philippine Philology.
“Paraiso,” a ‘direct cinema’ documentary that won the Best Film Award at the 21st CineEco Festival in Portugal last year, is the first-ever Filipino film to have been featured in the ECOCUP International Green Documentary Film Festival held annually in Moscow. Now on its 7th year, the ECOCUP took place from February 25 to 29 featuring 13 other documentaries from the USA, Italy, Israel, Finland, India, Germany, and Serbia. They were shown in various locations in Moscow.
Nash Ang, one of the country’s young and promising directors, is a two-time recipient of the Ani ng Dangal Award (Harvest of Honors) conferred by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) to artists who garner awards and accolades abroad.
Nash Ang’s participation in the ECOCUP festival is part of the Embassy’s commemorative activities on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Russia. It was made possible with the support of the NCCA led by Chairman Felipe M. de Leon, Jr. and OIC-Executive Director Adelina Suemith. END
