02 March 2016 – Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III met with Senator Andrey Klimov of the Federation Council of Russia to discuss deeper cooperation between the Philippine and Russian legislatures on February 29.
Senator Pimentel was invited by Senator Klimov to speak at a roundtable discussion “On Mining Legislative Regulation: International Aspect” also held in Vladivostok.
During their one-on-one meeting, the two senior legislators discussed Philippine-Russian cooperation in the field of mining and mineral resources. They also exchanged views on the current political situation in the Philippines and Russia as they vowed to do their best in strengthening relations.
As a leading member of the ruling United Russia party, Senator Klimov proposed to discuss a party-to-party agreement with leading political parties in the Philippines. Senator Pimentel agreed to proceed with discussions in his capacity as President of PDP-Laban.
Senator Pimentel’s visit to Vladivostok follows the landmark visit of Senate President Franklin M. Drilon to Moscow and St. Petersburg in October 2015. END
