OV Registration

14 OCTOBER 2014 – The Philippine Embassy in Moscow conducted an on-site voters registration drive for Filipinos based in Russia on 11 October 2015 at the Park Pobedy Gym in Moscow. It was held at the sidelines of the closing ceremony of the Sports Autumn League organized by the Samahan ng mga Magkakaibigan at Barkada, one of the seven (7) Filipino organizations in Russia.

This was organized in support of the Commission on Elections’ and Department Foreign Affairs’ joint efforts to raise awareness among Filipinos abroad of the government’s overseas absentee voting system.

Speaking before the Filipino community, Philippine Ambassador to the Russian Federation Carlos D. Sorreta encouraged our kababayan to spread the word about the ongoing voter registration program and exercise their right to vote in the upcoming May 2016 presidential elections.

Dozens of Filipinos - many of whom new in Moscow - availed of the opportunity to become registered voters at last Sunday’s registration drive.

This campaign follows the Embassy’s successful consular outreach mission for the burgeoning Filipino community in St. Petersburg held on 18-20 September 2015.

Based on Embassy records, Filipinos in Russia number around 4,500 and majority of them live and work in the megacity of Moscow and St. Petersburg. END
