The Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas, established through Executive Order No. 498 in December 1991, is a biennial award conferred to distinguished Filipino individuals and organizations in recognition of their outstanding contributions to national development efforts, or their outstanding achievements in their field of profession. The awards are also conferred to foreign individuals and organizations that provide assistance to the country or advance the cause of Filipino communities overseas.
 

AWARDS CATEGORIES 

  • Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino (LINKAPIL) Award
 
This award shall be conferred on Filipino associations or individuals for their exceptional or significant contribution to reconstruction, progress and development in the Philippines.
  • Banaag Award
 
This award shall be conferred on Filipino individuals or associations for their contributions which have significantly benefited a sector or community in the Philippines, or advanced the cause of overseas Filipino communities.
  • Kaanib ng Bayan Award
 
This award shall be conferred on foreign individuals or organizations for their exceptional or significant contribution to Philippine reconstruction, progress and development, or have significantly benefited a sector or community in the Philippines, or advanced the cause of overseas Filipino communities.
  • Pamana ng Pilipino Award
 
This award shall be conferred on Filipinos overseas, who, in exemplifying the talent and industry of the Filipino, have brought the country honor and recognition through excellence and distinction in the pursuit of their work or profession.  

EVALUATION CRITERIA

The awards shall be open to Filipino individuals, associations (both formal and informal), communities overseas, as well as foreign private individuals and organizations abroad. The awards shall be given to nominees whose past and current achievements, possess the following attributes:
  • Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino (LINKAPIL) Award
  1. Outstanding or significant service or contribution to benefit the Filipino people or nation;
  2. The success or impact or effectiveness of the contribution, which could be in the form of personal/professional service, financial or material contribution, or technology that has proven to be beneficial;
  3. Resourcefulness and initiative in tapping various sources to support development undertakings in the Philippines;
  4. Social consciousness in terms of manifesting strong community spirit, or leading or actively participating in projects or other activities for the common good; and
  5. Dedication and commitment to pursuing activities to contribute to progress and development in the Philippines.
  • Banaag Award
  1. Outstanding or significant service or contribution resulting in benefits to a particular sector/region in the Philippines or Filipino community overseas;
  2. The success or impact or effectiveness of the contribution, which could be in the form of any or a combination of personal/professional service, financial or material contribution, or technology that has proven to be beneficial;
  3. Dedication and commitment to pursuing activities to contribute to progress and development of a particular sector in the Philippines or community overseas;
  4. Resourcefulness and initiative in tapping various sources to support development undertakings in the interests of a particular sector/region in the Philippines or Filipino community overseas;
  5. Social consciousness in terms of manifesting strong community spirit, or leading or actively participating in projects or other activities for the common good; and
  6. Dedication and commitment to pursuing activities to contribute to the betterment of the sector/region in the Philippines, or Filipino community overseas.
  • Kaanib ng Bayan Award
  1. Outstanding or significant service or contribution to benefit the Filipino people or nation as a whole, to a particular sector/region in the Philippines or Filipino community overseas;
  2. The success or impact or effectiveness of the contribution, which could be in the form of personal/professional service, financial or material contribution, or technology that has proven to be useful;
  3. Resourcefulness and initiative in tapping various sources to support development undertakings in the Philippines or Filipino community overseas;
  4. Social consciousness in terms of manifesting strong community spirit, or leading or actively participating in projects or other activities for the common good; and
  5. Dedication and commitment to pursuing activities to contribute to progress and development in the Philippines, or to the betterment of the sector/region in the Philippines or Filipino community overseas.
  • Pamana ng Pilipino Award
  1. Consistent exceptional or outstanding performance in a particular profession or field of work;
  2. Research, new technology, invention, innovation, or pioneering activity in a particular profession or field of work, and its impact on the advancement of scientific knowledge in their profession;
  3. Resourcefulness and initiative in the pursuit of activities in a particular profession or field of work;
  4. Social consciousness in terms of manifesting strong community spirit, or leading or actively participating in projects or other activities for the common good; and
  5. Dedication and commitment to work or profession, or to the advancement of scientific knowledge in their profession.

RULES ON THE FILING OF NOMINATIONS

  1. Any individual or organization, whether Filipino or foreign, based in the Philippines or overseas, may submit nominations for the awards.
  2. Nominations originating from outside the Philippines may be submitted to the Awards Committee established in each Philippine Embassy or Consulate with jurisdiction in their area. Nominations from the Philippines may be sent to the Commission on Filipinos Overseas.
  3. Previous nominees who are not recipients of the award may be re-nominated under the same or another category.
  4. An individual or organization may not be nominated in more than one category at any one time. The Secretariat reserves the right to change the category in which the individual or organization was initially nominated, as appropriate.
  5. In cases where an individual and the organization where he/she belongs are both nominated to the same award category, privacy of the organization will be upheld.
  6. Only one award can be given to any person for the same deeds or set of activities.
  7. The awards may be given posthumously.

REQUIREMENTS 

Nominations must be made on the prescribed form and submitted together with supporting documents. All submissions must be written in, or translated into English or Filipino. 
  • Duly completed nomination form (click here). The nomination form must contain the following information, as relevant:
  1. Personal data (for individual nominees) or organizational profile (for other nominees)
    • Personal data includes personal circumstances, educational background, employment history, and organizational membership or affiliations
    • Organizational profile includes names of officers and members, organization's history, programs and services, and official accomplishment reports for the last five years
  2. A summary of the relevant contributions made by the nominee, which includes specific data on the following
    • Contribution of the nominee, in particular, whether personal or professional service, material or financial contribution, or technology that has proven to be beneficial (Please indicate estimated value, if the contribution is monetary or material)
    • Description of the situation, activity or project where the contribution or assistance was used
    • Description of the number of beneficiaries, results/effects, or impact of the nominee's contribution to a particular sector, community, or to the country in general
  3. Names, addresses, contact numbers of at least three beneficiaries of the nominee's contribution to a particular sector, community or the country in general, and their testimonials
  4. Other supporting documents (e.g. awards and citations, scientific papers, publications, new articles, photos of activities, etc.)
  • Duly completed endorsement form to be completed by the Post's Awards Committee (click here)
  • Constitution and by-laws, and organizational logo or seal (if organization)
  • Good photographs (9 cm. x 12 cm. for individual and 12.75 cm. x 17.5 cm. for organization). Photographs of individual nominees should be in black and white
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION 

All nominations for the Year 2012 Presidential Awards must be received by the CFO on or before 30 June 2012. Nominations sent by mail must be postmarked not later than the date of the deadline. 

Non-submission of the required documents may be a cause for disqualification of the nominee from the awards.
