23 May 2016 – Hon. Felipe M. de Leon, Jr., Chairman of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), represented the Philippines in the ASEAN-Russia Cultural Ministers Meeting which was held in Sochi, Russia on May 19. 

In his remarks, Chairman de Leon recommended a prolonged, long-term cultural cooperation between Russia and ASEAN Member-States through intellectual and cultural exchanges, education for cultural awareness and strengthening cultural achievements in the national and regional levels.

During the meeting, the ASEAN Member States and Russia adopted a Joint Statement identifying the priority areas of ASEAN-Russia cultural cooperation, including enhancing collaboration in music, film, and tourism as well as in the preservation and use of cultural heritage sites.

Chairman De Leon was accompanied by Ms. Mary Anne M. Luis, Head of the International Affairs Office of the NCCA.

The meeting was held at the sidelines of the commemorative summit of the 20th Anniversary of the ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Partnership held in Sochi, Russia on May 19-20.  Hon. Vladimir Medinsky, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation chaired the meeting. END
