13 November 2015 – Philippine Ambassador to the Russian Federation Carlos D. Sorreta attended a media launch for the special issue of “Asia-Pacific News Brief”, the official publication of the National Coordinating Center for Developing Economic Cooperation with the Asia-Pacific Region (APRCenter). The special issue focuses on the Philippines’ hosting of the APEC Summit and features an in-depth interview with Ambassador Sorreta.

The media launch was also attended by Mr. Alexander Shokhin, President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RUIE) and Chairman of the APRCenter. The two answered questions from various media representatives on the priorities of the Philippine APEC hosting as well as the interests of Russia in the Asia-Pacific.

Mr. Shokhin is a well-known Russian statesman and economist, having served as Deputy Prime Minister and Russian Governor for the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The APRCenter was established by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to advise the government and the private sector on expanding engagement with the Asia-Pacific region.

Ambassador Sorreta spoke at length about the importance of Russia’s renewed focus on the Asia-Pacific Region, particularly Southeast Asia, as well as the measures being taken to realize the potential of Philippines-Russia economic cooperation.
