13 August 2015, MOSCOW –Philippine Ambassador to the Russian Federation H.E. Carlos D. Sorreta met with officials of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss measure to help protect the growing numbers of Filipinos in the country.

Ambassador Sorreta discussed with Mr. Nail Mazgutovich Latyrov, Deputy Director for Consular Affairs, several possible agreements that will help ensure the protection of the growing number of Filipinos in Russia. Ambassador Sorreta emphasized the Philippine policy of protecting its nationals abroad as enshrined in Republic Act 10022 or the Migrant Workers Act as well as the importance of working with Foreign Ministry in this regard.

The measures discussed will expand the capabilities of the Embassy to extend assistance to Filipinos in distress, allow for greater information exchange and guarantee access by Embassy officials to Filipinos in need of assistance.  

The Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the proposals and agreed to discuss the matter formally. END
